Hi Everyone! We hope you are enjoying this summer weather as much as we are (yes, finally!)… Changes in the weather can also lead to changes in your oral health, so it is important to keep up with your body’s health. For those who have kids, it is especially important to keep on them during these eventful summer months.

Here are some helpful habits to form during the summer to maintain your oral health:

1. Stay Hydrated to avoid bad breath. Yes, when your body becomes dehydrated and your mouth becomes dry, then bacteria builds up and it SMELLS! Drinking enough fluids throughout the day can help prevent bad breath as well as decay.

2. Avoid super sugary drinks like lemonade and soda. Everyone tends to drink more lemonade and fun summer drinks when the weather gets nicer, but what does this do for your teeth? Sugary drinks are one of the main causes of cavities. Sugar gets in between your teeth and sits there, eventually forming decay (not to mention staining your teeth as well….). Try drinking sugary drinks with a straw so that it avoids contact with your teeth as best as you can! Or, rinse your mouth with water right after you enjoyed a sugary drink 😉

3. Where a sports guard if you are on a sports team this summer! Protect your teeth from getting chipped, cracked, or broken. Click HERE to read about sports guards.

And don’t forget to brush day and night!

Enjoy this nice weather outside and stay cool! See you around!
